A Message From Our Chairman

We are proud to announce that we are becoming the national charity for all tetraplegics. From its origins in 1974 as the Trevor Jones Trust and through the past three decades as Regain, the charity has focused on those injured through sport and leisure. But we have come to recognise that all those living with tetraplegia need a charity dedicated to supporting them.

Tetraplegia is the most severe form of spinal injury, caused by damage to the upper spinal cord between the C1-C8 vertebrae. It results in partial or complete paralysis of all four limbs. Often the result of a sudden trauma, tetraplegia
can also arise from illness or medical conditions – it changes lives in an instant.

So, from today Regain will be committed to supporting all tetraplegics whose lives have been transformed by any traumatic injury such as road traffic accidents, spinal cord tumours, autoimmune conditions, infections and degenerative diseases.

This is a defining step in our journey. As the national charity for all tetraplegics we are committed to supporting our beneficiaries in every aspect of life after injury. In the early stages, we provide emotional support, specialist advice and guidance through our tetraplegic trustees and the wider Regain community. We help foster independence by funding grants for electric wheelchairs, e-motion wheels, and
wheelchair add-ons, as well as adapting homes and vehicles to ensure accessibility. We are also investing in education and opportunity – from
our new Learn and Earn initiative to funding higher-level courses – so our beneficiaries can pursue their ambitions with renewed confidence.

And of course, we remain true to our roots by helping tetraplegics return to sport. Whether through grants for rugby wheelchairs, handcycles, or even specially adapted surfboards, we have enabled many individuals to rediscover the joy of being active. Some have even gone on to represent their country on the international stage and win medals at the Paralympic Games.

I have met many people whose lives have been turned upside down by tetraplegia. I have also seen first-hand the incredible impact Regain can have, from offering a reassuring word of advice, to enabling independence, to supporting
life-changing adventures and even Paralympic dreams.

Our beneficiaries often describe our work in two simple words: life changing. With
your support, so much more is possible.

Please continue to support this very special charity, so together we can help more people not just survive, but to Regain their lives and thrive.
