Grants

Regain was established to support individuals who have experienced a life-changing spinal cord injury resulting in tetraplegia. We provide dedicated funding for potential beneficiaries to help them acquire the specialist equipment necessary to achieve greater independence and a higher quality of life.

Every request we receive is considered independently and on its own merits, with grants awarded based on the funds available at the time of application.

Apply For Grant

Essential Information for Applicants

Before starting your application, please review our core terms to ensure eligibility:

  • Eligibility: Our fund is open to anyone living with tetraplegia.
  • Purpose of Funding: Grants are primarily provided for specialist equipment, though the panel may consider other requests if funds permit.
  • Professional Endorsement: All applications must be endorsed by a healthcare professional, such as a consultant, occupational therapist, physiotherapist, or case manager. A member of our panel will contact this individual to discuss the application.
  • Funding Limits: Applicants may request a maximum of 75% of the total equipment cost, up to a maximum grant of £5,000.
  • Frequency of Support: If your application is successful, you will be eligible to apply to Regain again three years from the date of your award letter.
  • Statutory Funding: Regain grants cannot be used as a substitute for statutory funding or for equipment that is available through the NHS or Social Services.
  • Equipment Standards: We do not typically fund second-hand items. All purchases must be made from a reputable retailer who has provided professional advice on the suitability of the equipment.
  • No Retrospective Grants: We cannot award funding for items that have already been purchased.

Your Journey to Support

We aim to make our process as transparent and supportive as possible:

  1. Submission: Email your equipment quotes to grants@regainsportscharity.com
  2. Initial Review: A panel member will check your application for eligibility and completion, contacting you if further information is required.
  3. Personal Consultation: Eligible applicants will be invited to a video or telephone call to discuss how the requested equipment will impact their daily life.
  4. Recommendation: The Grants Panel – comprised of the Charity Director, a trustee, and a Regain beneficiary – makes a recommendation to the Board of Trustees.
  5. Final Decision: The Board makes the final decision, which is final and binding.
  6. Payment: If successful, payments are made directly to the equipment supplier or facility provider.

Please note: Grant offers are valid for six months from the date of the offer; if the equipment or facility is not purchased within this time, the offer may be withdrawn.

Ownership and Maintenance

Once equipment is funded, the following responsibilities apply:

  • Maintenance: Regain does not take responsibility for the maintenance, insurance, or replacement of equipment once it wears out.
  • Disposal: If you no longer require the funded equipment, you must contact us immediately. Equipment should never be sold without prior consultation with Regain.
