Our History

From our origins as the Trevor Jones Trust and through three decades as Regain, our mission has historically focused on those injured through sport and leisure. However, we recognise that every person living with tetraplegia deserves a dedicated charity to support them.

Today, Regain is proud to be the national charity for all tetraplegics. Whether an injury was caused by a sport injury, road accident, fall, or illness, we are committed to supporting our beneficiaries in every aspect of their lives:

* Early-stage support: Providing emotional guidance and specialist advice through our community of trustees and mentors.

* Fostering independence: Funding essential grants for equipment such as electric wheelchairs, home adaptations, and vehicle modifications.

* Investing in opportunity: Supporting education initiatives to rebuild professional confidence.

* Returning to sport: Staying true to our roots by funding adapted sports equipment – from handcycles to adapted surfboards – so individuals can rediscover the joy of being active.

Ivan Jones CB, Regain Chairman, said: “Our beneficiaries often describe our work as life-changing. With your support, we can help more people not just survive, but truly thrive.”

Our Journey: A Timeline of Impact

1988

The charity is founded as The Trevor Jones Tetraplegic Trust. It was inspired by Royal Navy pilot Trevor Jones, who became the first tetraplegic to sail around Britain after breaking his neck during Navy ski team trials.

1993

The Trust officially gains charity status, focusing specifically on individuals injured through sport.

1995

We rename the organisation to Regain – The Trust for Sports Tetraplegics to better reflect our mission of restoring independence and dignity.

2010

Our mission expands to provide a broader range of support, including mobility, communication, education and emotional well-being services.

2025

A pivotal milestone: Regain widens its mission to support everyone living with tetraplegia, regardless of how their injury or condition occurred.
